Everyday Activities That Will Enhance Your Passion for Writing!

Being a writer can be a tough and demanding job. There is the daily grind of coming up with new work, and if you are a part time writer, you will also have to juggle writing with your day job and other responsibilities.

There is also the constant threat of writer’s block and ultimately losing your passion for writing as a whole. Which is why you should actively look for ways to keep your passion for the writing process. Here are everyday activities that will enhance your passion for writing.

  1. Meditate on a regular basis

If there is one thing you need to develop in order to be a better writer, it is the ability to handle stress. This is because stress is a constant part of life and if you don’t know how to handle it, you will struggle with it and it will inadvertently affect your career as a writer. This is especially true if you are writing or doing a long term writing project.

This is why you should try meditating on a regular basis.  Meditation has been around for a long time. Asian cultures have even used this practice to gain enlightenment or at the very least cleanse the mind of negative thoughts. And as a writer, you will need a clear and focused mind in order to truly unleash your full writing potential. So it makes sense that you meditate on a regular basis.

The best thing about meditation is that it is not that difficult to get started and you don’t even need to buy any equipment in order to do it properly. All in all, mediation is definitely an activity that you should consistently do.

  1. Exercise

Although this may seem strange at first, exercise is in truth a very important aspect of a writer’s life. This is because writers predominantly live a very sedentary lifestyle. Writers spend most of their time sitting down during the writing process and the writing sessions could last for hours on end.

Which is not really a good idea if you want to keep a healthy lifestyle. Which is why you should keep a regular exercise routine. Having a regular exercise routine will allow you to stay healthy and help you keep the cobwebs out of your system.

Your exercise sessions does not need to be too specific or too heavily regimented. You can take up a sport like basketball or football, or take up a combat sport like karate or boxing. You can also take up jogging or yoga. In truth, your exercises won’t really matter. Just as long as you sweat and stave off the pounds in the process.

  1. Try to read something new every day

If you truly want to enhance your passion for writing, you should read as much as possible. The sensation of reading new content is a truly immersive and exciting experience.  Which is why it always pays to read something new every day.

It does not matter what genre you read or whether it is just a short novella or an entire encyclopedia. What matters is that you make it a habit and try to read something new every day. By reading a lot, you are opening yourself to new ideas and finding new sources of inspiration every day.

  1. Travel

If you are looking for advice on how to become a better writer or tips on how to be a more balanced writer, the best advice you can get is to travel. This is because travelling is not just sightseeing and going to new places. It is also about seeing the world in a totally different way. It is about seeing different cultures, different cuisines and different ways of life.

Travelling is also a great source of inspiration because the sights you see will compel you to write. So the next time you feel a bit bored with the writing process, don’t just ignore it. Instead, you should go out and travel. Of course, this does not mean you go on a world tour or anything. It just means that you should go out of your comfort zone and look for more unfamiliar places.  You can go on a camping trip or just take a bus to the next town, it does not really matter. Just as long as you get out of the house and see something new.

  1. Take up other artistic pursuits

To be a writer is to be an artist. Which is why it is a good idea to try your hand in various art forms. Not only is it a great way to relax and clear your mind of the writing process for a while, it is also a great way to expand your perception on art.

You can try painting, sculpting, photography, etc. You can even try martial arts if you want. Any activity is good as long as it will enable you to express yourself and expand your creative horizons.

  1. Actively look for new sources of inspiration

Aside from being busy with a lot of activities, the most important thing to keep in mind is to have an open mind. Be open to every form of inspiration that comes your way. In short, you should actively look for new sources of inspiration every day.

Inspiration can come in many forms, and it can strike at any time.  It can hit you in the bath, on a walk or when you’re driving to work. It is your job as a writer to recognize these sources of inspiration and act on them.
